Explore steeper and more rocky walking terrain on North Wales' classic routes.
What is scrambling? Scrambling is where mountain terrain requires the use your hands to climb through steeper sections of the paths and these sections can be short and fun or sometimes longer and slightly more committing. In order to have a fun and successful day out on your chosen scramble, having the ability to move well on the rock and select the correct lines as not to be crag fast is absolutely essential.

My beginner route selections combine some mountain terrain where paths meet short scramble sections, you will have the chance to get more hands on and be eased into the more challenging sections gradually. Grade 1 scrambles vary in difficulty and are tackled without the use of ropes or other safety equipment.

You must have a good level of fitness to participate, you will be required to make high steps and the descents can often be steep and tough on the legs.

U18 must be accompanied by at least 1 adult.

Scramble routes are graded by difficulty and grade 2 and 3 scrambles are more commonly tackled with a mountaineering head on. These grades bridge the gap between grade 1 and rock climbing. Tackling these routes requires some rope and protection placement skills so you and your partner can have lifelong adventures on your favourite mountain routes.
Over the days we will look at:
-
Basic scrambling techniques and movement skills
-
Choosing a safe route and assessing risk
-
Assisting and safeguarding other party members
-
Ropework for scrambles in ascent and descent
-
Gear Placement and building belays
-
Planning a mountain day
-
Guidebooks, maps and grading system
-
Mountain navigation
-
Mountain weather - how the weather affects our route planning and choice during the day
-
Emergency procedures in case of an incident
-
